League finished off in style away to Rosehill Star

Tarbert finished off their league campaign away to Rosehill with the title already in the bag.  Two early strikes from Iain Mackinnon and a left foot wonder strike from David Ronald had Tarbert on easy street until a late collapse saw their deficit reduced to 2-3.  They held on however to make their current run 8 league wins on the spin needing one more in the playoff to earn Premier league status. This will take place against Clydebank College at Millburn Park, Vale of leven on Friday 5th of June.  Kick off is at 7.15pm.

Dookers create history with Division 1 triumph

Tarbert played their final home game of the season on saturday against an already relegated Shawlands side knowing a draw would see them crowned champions.

The home side started in determined fashion, biting into tackles and dominant in the air, and were one up after 10 minutes when Johnson was felled in the penalty area.  Prentice stepped up to finish with ease.  This settled any early nerves for the boys however they conceded a sloppy goal after half an hour when a long throw in was bundled into the net despite the efforts of Martin on the line. HT 1-1

The championship winning goal arrived after an hour when a trademark Ronald long throw was misjudged by the away keeper which allowed Guy to flick the ball into the gaping net.  Tarbert dominated after this and should have killed off the game but for some poor finishing and last ditch defending.  The boys were then presented with the trophy and their winners medals, much to the delight of Sprocket who even conjured up a song for the short walk to the pub. "Tarberts got the winners medals" - Legendary.

Tarbert win to leave Division 1 title within reach

Tarbert hosted title rivals Sporto on saturday 2nd May looking to make another significant push towards the title they crave so much.

They started in determined mood and were awarded an early penalty when Johnson was upended in the box.  Up stepped McDougall to dispatch the kick and put the home side 1 up.  Tarbert continued to push at their opponents however shortly before half time they lost two soft goals which completely changed the game and made the score 1-2.

Stern words at half time had the team back on their toes again and the equaliser came after 60 minutes when Smyth rose at the back post to power a header past the keeper for his third goal of the season. Game on.  The Dookers knew they had to win and threw everything at Sporto, creating several chances and even managing to miss from a yard.

The winner, as it has so often for Tarbert recently, came with only minutes to go when McDougall crossed for TT who headed in from close range.  Late goals have been Tarberts trademark in this late title push and shows the true desire the team possess at the moment.  One more push and they can make history.

COME ON TARBERT!!!!!

Dookers crash out of Coronation cup in Glasgow

Tarbert travelled to Great Western Road on sat 25th April looking to book themselves a place in the semi final and take on step closer to the trophy they won last season.

The team was dealt a huge blow before kick off when John Martin was unable to take his place in goals due to a rib injury sustained in the warm up. Coach Macnab stepped in to take his place.

The dookers started well in the opening stages however were unlucky to find themselves 1 down when McDougall headed into his own net from a corner.  He made amends shortly after half time however when he curled in a free kick from 20 yards to even the scores again.

Tarbert lost a poor goal midway through the second half when a free kick from the left went all the way into the back of the net.  Guy freshened things up after this bringing on Ronald and Prentice and the two combined almost immediately when a Ronald long throw found Prentice who tapped home with his first touch.

The winning goal came late in the game with the Dookers pushing for a winner, a shot from the edge of the area beating Mcnab in goal and finding the bottom corner.

† 3pts Deducted

18th April 2009

Tarbert's firsh home game since January saw them taking on fellow title chasers Dumbarton Rock, in what was one of the most hotly contested games of the season.  Tarbert were missing 3 key players for the game, however the Dookers strength in depth made even Alex Ferguson a little jealous.

The game started at a frantic pace with both teams looking to attack, however no real clear cut chances being created.  The home side could have had a penalty early doors however the referee waved play on, much to the dismay of the home support.

The first period finished goalless with both teams knowing they would have to find a winner if they were to continue their title challenge.

The "Rock" started the stronger in the second period, with goalkeeper Martin keeping Tarbert in the game with a string of superb saves, however he could do nothing with the opening goal as Dumbartons striker found the bottom corner with a good drive.

The home side were now beginning to panic and it was not until the equaliser came that they really believed they could win the game.  Douglas Guy controlled a pass before turning his man with ease and firing a superb left foot shot into the bottom corner.  Game on.

The away side were reduced to ten men shortly after this and with time running out the Dookers threw everything at their opponents desperate to find a winner.  It came in the final minute of injury time when Johnson beat his man and fed the ball to Guy, his shot was blocked and the ball fell to young supersub Stuart Currie, who slotted the ball under the keeper.  Cil Andreis erupted knowing that this could be a pivotal moment in deciding where the title ends up this season.

21st March 2009

An away trip to a battling Duncanrig (B) side was this weeks fixture for Tarbert AFC, looking to pick up their fourth straight away win.  Playing into a driving wind in the first period, Tarbert struggled to pick up any momentum, and after 25 mins the home side took the lead.  A set piece was poorly dealy with allowing the Duncanrig striker to head the ball home from 2 yards. HT 1-0.

After a stern talking to from coach Bruce Macnab at the interval, Tarbert began the second half in determined fashion, and equalised straight away after an excellent finish from Nikki MacDougall.  Further strikes from Nikki (2), Johnstone, Mackinnon and an own goal finished off a second half goalfest for the Dookers who are now looking like serious Division 1 title contenders.

Dookers Grind out the 3 points in Stepps!!!

Tarbert AFC travelled to Stepps to play Cambria (B) on sat 14th March once again knowing a win would maintain their push for the Division 1 title.  They started the match on the front foot with Prentice and Johnson passing up two great chances, however it was Prentice who opened the scoring with a fine turn and drive from 12 yards.

The dookers seemed to take the foot off the gas after this excellent start, and Cambria gradually got back into the game, only being denied by some excellent goalkeeping from the in-form John Martin. HT 0-1.

The second half started much the same as the first had ended, with the home side the more hungrier, and they got their reward after 55 mins with a free kick that evaded everyone in the box and nestled in the bottom corner.  This spurred tarbert back into life and they created some excellent chances, only for their finishing to let them down.  The game was won by a piece of brilliance from Nikki McDougall with only 10 minutes left on the clock.  The youngster single handedly beating the Cambria defence before rounding the keeper and slottng home. FT 1-2.

Tarbert back on track after defeating leaders

Saturday 28th February 2009

Tarbert travelled to Paisley on Saturday knowing only a win would keep their title hopes alive.  Manager Guy opted for an experienced lineup, restoring McDougall to partner Prentice in attack, with debutant Paul Smith replacing the unavaliable Martin in defence.

The Dookers started extremely well, and would have had an early lead after Prentice tapped in, only for the referee to give offside.  The back four remained solid for the first 45 with Martin in goal rarely being troubled.  Into the second half and the visitors were 1-0 up almost immediately.  Sprockets corner found Smith at the back post, who volleyed home, to cap an impressive debut with a goal.

After an hour had been played, the game exploded into life, after Prentice was fouled 25 yards out.  A few handbags later and Carlton were down to 9 men, their whole team swarming the striker, before the ref managed to cool things down.  Free kick to Tarbert and up stepped the big man to hit a beauty into the top bag..... 2-0 Tarbert.

Tarbert were running ragged and should have gone on to score more, however they let the hosts back in it after conceding a soft goal from a free kick.  The final whistle sounded and the three points were in the bag.... more importantly they are back in the hunt for the division 1 title.

Tarbert travel to Stepps this weekend to play Cambria, and with every game left this season being a cup final, the boys should be well up for it!!!

Come on the Dookers!!!

Dookers leave it late against Kings

Saturday 21st Feburary 2009

After losing out on the previous matchday, Tarbert were determined to get their season back on track away to Kings Park Rangers, for full details check out the match reports section!

Dissapointing Tarbert lose out in Argyll Derby!!

Saturday 24th January 2009

Lochgilphead Red Star travelled to Cil Andreis on Saturday looking to turn around what has so far been a hugely dissapointing season.  After a cagey first 20 minutes it was the away side who struck first with a low Assen drive from 18 yards.  The second half was extremely scrappy, with neither side creating much, until Red Star doubled their advantage after 70 mins.  The dookers did manage to pull one back late on, through a Smyth header,  however it was not enough as the away team held on.

Hard fought win keeps Tarbert in the mix!!!!
Tarbert AFC 2 - 1 Rosehill Star

A gutsy performance saw Tarbert run out 2-1 winners on a wet and windy Cil Andreis.  A brace from James "Coco" Prentice in the first half was enough to see off the team from Glasgow, despite some heavy pressure in the 2nd half.  With the title race hotting up, Tarbert travel to Paisley this weekend (Saturday 17th January) to play league leaders Carlton (B).  They will be looking to avenge their earlier defeat in the season, whilst moving within a point of the leaders at the top of division 1.

Dazzling Dookers hit Kings for six.........
Tarbert underlined their title credentials at Cil Andreis on saturday with a convincing 6-1 defeat of Kings Park Rangers (B).  Douglas Guy kept up his hot scoring streak with 3, with TT, Coco and Big Alby also chipping in with a goal a piece.

Down memory lane with a blast from the past!!!!!

Back row: Ross McKay, James Smyth, Gavin Liddell, Iain Johnson, James Prentice, Callum Elliott
Front row: Colin Maxwell, Scott Mcnicol, Jamie Stuart, Craig Martin, David Ronald.

Picture is from August 1997 where Tarbert boys travelled to Islay for the annual under 12's tournament.  After winning the tournament the year before, the young dookers were dissapointed to be knocked out in the semi finals 2-1 by Taynult.  Player of the tournament on the day was a fresh looking David Ronald.

Back to winning ways at Cil Andreis!!!

Tarbert AFC returned to winning ways on Saturday the 1st November with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Cambria B.  See match reports for all the facts on the game.

Dookers crash out of Scottish
Tarbert played their home Scottish cup match in Helenburgh at Hermitage Academy, as the poor weather made Cil Andreis unplayable for the last three weeks.

The dookers began as the better team, creating several chances on the counter attack, and were rewarded when Douglas Guy smashed in the rebound from a James Prentice free kick.  As has happened so often this season however, the home side conceded a sloppy goal almost immediately, and further poor defending let in Dalreata again. HT 1-2.

Dalreata increased their lead shortly after the break, and although Allan Miller gave Tarbert hope with a screamer from 25 yards, the visitors ran out comfortable winners with a further 2 goals in the final quarter.

Points shared in 10 goal thriller!!!!

Tarbert travelled to Helensburgh at the weekend to play Dumbarton Rock, a team who boasted a 100% record in the league this season.  A pulsating 1st half ended 2-2 after 2 goals from James Prentice.  Shortly after half time James Smyth made it 3-2, however some slack defending let the home side back in the match and after 70 mins they led 4-3.  Another screamer from Coax made it 4-4, before Dumbartons 5th, and Tarbert gained a share of the spoils when some poor keeping allowed Coax to claim his 4th of the day.

Dookers back to winning ways!!!!

Tarbert returned to form on September 20th where they were 2-0 victors over Duncanrig B.  The goals were scored by James Prentice and Iain Smith.  The end of the game seemed too much for player/manager Douglas Guy, who couldnt even make it back to the changing rooms.  A big thanks to referee John Scott for giving the big man a helping hand.

Free week (13th September) as Tarbert get ready to raise!!!

Tarbert have a break from action this weekend as the village raise funds for their young player Andrew Macmillan who was involved in an awful car crash last year.

A variety of events have been arranged such as a Triathlon, a charity bowls competition rounded off with a charity dance in the local bowling club at night.

Everyone has been urged to give generously for such an important cause.  If you would like to find out more you can log onto Andrews blog set up by his brother Jamie at:

Tarbert fail to spark in East End

The East End of Glasgow was the venue for Tarbert AFC on the 6th of September, where they played new outfit Sporto AFC.  Although star striker James Prentice scored his first goal of the campaign, Tarbert lost the match 3-1 in what proved to be a tough encounter.

Dookers suffer first defeat of season at Cil Andreis

Tarbert faced Carlton YM (B) at home in their third win of the season looking to pick up another three points.  The home side started brightly with pleanty of posession however they could not turn this into goals, and were punished when Carlton scored with a swift counter attack.  The Dookers tried in vain to get back into the match, but it was not to be and the away side continued their 100% start to this season.

Another excellent win for Duggie's boys

Tarbert travelled to Shawlands on the 23rd of August for their second game of the season.  After a hard game the dookers came away with a 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Craig Martin, Mike Connor (2) and Malcom Mckiver.  It was another excellent performance from Tarbert, who dominated throughout the match.

After the game, Craig Martin was asked to take a drugs test, as SAFL officials cannot understand his sudden leap to the top of the scoring charts.  Results will be displayed only on the Tarbert AFC website.

New SAFL Season explodes into action!!!!!

Well folks the 2008/09 football season is under way after an outstanding Argyll derby on saturday 16th August.

After weeks of hype and excitement the opening league game left many of the Ropework crowd breathless, along with Bruce McNab and JoJo voiceless.

Tarbert AFC ran out 4-2 winners thanks to goals from Douglas Guy, Craig Martin (just to keep him happy), Iain Johnson and an early goal of the season contender from Nikki McDougall.

Player Manager DG praised the effort shown from the players and urged them to keep it up ahead of the tough away game against Shawlands on Saturday.
