Match Reports 08/09
Kings Park 2 - 3 Tarbert
Tarbert went into this game needing three points to keep in the hunt for the Division 1 league title, however things were not going to plan for the Dookers who had to battle until the death to grind out a narrow win. The first half was a very Scrappy affair, with the home side opening the scoring after some slack defending. It took a superb James Prentice free kick after 35 minutes to pull Tarbert back on level terms, after Johnson had been fouled on the left hand side of the box.
The second half saw Tarbert push for the win they craved, and after 60 minutes disaster struck when Kings Park once again went in front after more poor defending. With only 5 minutes remaining however, up popped experienced midfielder TT McDougall to fire in a sweet left foot volley from 18 yards to give the away side a lifeline. With their season hanging in the balance, the Dookers pushed for the winner, Guy changing the formation to 3 up top. It paid dividends as a goalmouth scramble 4 minutes into injury time fell to McDougall who expertly found the top corner with an overhead kick. To say everyone went wild is a severe understatement.
A lucky escape to say the least, The Dookers must improve this weekend when they travel away to face table topping Carlton. C'mon the Dookers!!!
Hamilton 2 - 7 Tarbert
Tarbert AFC eased themselves into the quarter finals of this seasons Coronation cup, however not before a scare against the team from division 2.
The Dookers were without Laing, N McDougall, and goalkeeper Martin for the game, so in came Hawthorn, Blair and Elliott to deputise admirably throughout.
The game started at a frantic pace with Tarbert unable to play on the deck, resulting in some scrappy play. It was not long however before they took the lead, a long throw in by Sprocket flicked on to the back post leaving Guy the simple task of nodding home. As has continuously been the case this season, Tarbert were unable to build on this and soon found themselves 2-1 down, a breakaway goal and a penalty putting the home side ahead. Straight from the kick off and the dookers decided to get their finger out, Prentice cooly finishing to even up again at 2-2. Player manager Douglas Guy then showed he was in the mood by slotting home his second of the day, and the hat-trick followed when he rounded the keeper and finished from an acute angle.
Half time 2-4
The second period began as the first had finished, with waves of pressure from the visitors. Overall the team were much more positive, playing good football and battling for every ball and it was only a matter of time before more goals followed, as the home team tired.
The fifth came courtesy of that man Guy again, after great work on the right by Ronald, big DG rifled home from twelve yards in off the bar for his 4th of the game, surely a record for the big defender.
The final 20 minutes saw fresh legs appear as Smith replaced Blair, and McDonald replacing TT MaDougall. Both were in the thick of the action from the off, combining to good effect down the right hand side along with Ronald, who was utterly desperate to open his goal account for the season. After 14 attempts on goal it still never came, so up stepped Prentice again to add his 2nd and 3rd of the game, the latter a fine header from a Miller free kick.
Full time Hamilton 2- 7 Tarbert
A gutsy performance to get the job done, with a quarter final draw to look forward to. Manager Guy now has a few selection headaches with some excellent performances today, and players returning next week. Good luck big man.

Deadly duo trick or treat
Published: 07 November, 2008
WITH the score nil-nil at half time on Saturday, Tarbert’s Nicky MacDougall and James Prentice set about the visiting defence as they combined to good effect to ensure victory for Dougie Guy’s side.
Things didn’t go according to plan early on as Cambria’s keeper pulled off two good saves to deny the opener. Ian Johnson fired over the bar following a great pass by Prentice but it wasn’t only the hosts who nearly scored. Cambria was denied by good blocking in front of Martin’s goal.
The West Loch Shores/Islay Frigate Hotel sponsored side’s coaching team Scott and MacNab wanted more dig and drive in the second half.
Within five minutes, Tarbert scored. Prentice netted from MacDougall’s fine run and cutback.
The duo combined again to double the lead on 60 minutes.
Tarbert survived some close calls with the post and crossbar denying an away goal.
Cambria did notch from a deflected shot to ensure a nervy final five minutes.
Smythe did well to set up Prentice who presented Nicky with the task of scoring his second and Tarbert’s third in the final minute to clinch the points.
A more determined second-half paid off with Tarbert showing how to grind out a victory.
